H1N1 Flu Information
H1N1 Vaccine Voluntary Non-Safety Related Recall
There has been a voluntary recall of four lots of H1N1 Pediatric vaccine. The Elmhurst Clinic received only a small number of vaccines from one of the recalled lots on November 18, 2009.
This particular vaccine is administered to children between the ages of 6 to 35 months. This recall is not due to any safety issues. During routine testing, it was determined that the strength of the vaccine decreases over time and that it no longer met the manufacturer’s specifications for potency.
There is no need to re-administer a dose to those who received vaccine from these lots. However, as is recommended for all 2009 H1N1 vaccines, all children less than 10 years old should get the recommended two doses of H1N1 vaccine approximately a month apart for the optimal immune response. Therefore, children less than 10 years old who have only received one dose of vaccine thus far should still receive a second dose of 2009 H1N1 vaccine.
