Hospitalist Program
Your primary care physician has elected to separate inpatient (hospital)
care from outpatient (office) care. While you are hospitalized at Elmhurst
Memorial Hospital one of the Elmhurst Clinic inpatient internists (or
hospitalists) will attend to your medical care. The hospitalists are in constant
communication with your primary care and have access to all of your
medical records.
What is a hospitalist?
Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Their day consists of admitting, rounding, managing, discharging, and consulting for hospitalized patients of the Elmhurst Clinic physicians. They have a consistent presence in the hospital allowing other Clinic physicians to spend more time with office patients.
What are the benefits of a hospitalist?
By focusing his or her practice on the care of hospitalized patients, a hospitalist can gain a great deal of experience in the unique aspects of your needs during your hospital stay. Hospitalists typically spend most or all of their day in the hospital, and are more readily available to you.
