History

1928 — Dr. Edmund Droegemueller receives his medical degree from Rush Medical College/Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

1929 — Dr. Droegemueller begins a surgical fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.

1932 — Dr. Droegemueller opens an office at the Elmhurst National Bank building in Elmhurst and shares offices with Dr. Ernest Watson and Dr. Charles Evanson. They are joined by Dr. David Engle and Dr. Marie Wittler. They expand their office area and rent the third floor of the bank building.

1940 — Following Pearl Harbor, Drs. Watson, Engle and Droegemueller are called to serve in the military.

1946 — Dr. Droegemueller is discharged from the U.S. Naval Reserves. Dr. Engle is released from duty but does not return to Elmhurst.

1947 — Dr. Droegemueller and Dr. Watson return to Elmhurst.

Aug. 1, 1952 — The Elmhurst Clinic partnership is formed by Drs. Droegemueller, Evanson, Watson, Wittler, Washburn and Boyd. The principal place of business is 105 S. York Street in Elmhurst.

1954 — The property on Schiller Street and Haven Road in Elmhurst is purchased as the location of a two-story physician office building. Within the next few years, Drs. Nolan, Stoker, Fornatto, Westfall, Burton and Black join the group.

Mid-1950s — Elmhurst Clinic opens in Wheaton at 330 Reber Street. It moves to the Mona Kea complex in Carol Stream in the early 1980s.

1960 — Additional doctors join the group, totaling 28, making it necessary to expand the main Schiller Street facility in Elmhurst. Two more floors are added.

1992 — Pediatrics and allergy move into the renovated interior of the 183 N. York Street annex in Elmhurst. Also incorporated into the 9,000-plus square foot facility is radiology, mammography and a small lab.

1995 — A new facility opens in Wood Dale at the corner of Elizabeth and Addison Roads. Internal medicine, pediatrics and OB/GYN are all currently at this site.

1996 — Dr. John Benages, family practice, joins the clinic at North York Road in Elmhurst.

1997 — Dr. Vaino Raag transfers his practice to the Wood Dale site.

1999 — A new Clinic location opens at the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health, 1200 S. York Road, Elmhurst. The Clinic occupies the entire second floor of the 180,000 square foot building. The west wing of the second floor includes all of the surgical specialties (general surgery; ear, nose and throat; audiology; orthopedics; urology; and ophthalmology). The north wing of the second floor includes pediatrics, OB/GYN, internal medicine and rotating specialties of gastroenterology, cardiology and pulmonology.

2000 — Dr. Thomas Pozen, internal medicine, joins the Clinic and transfers his practice to the Center for Health location.

2001 — A podiatry specialty is added to the Orthopedics department at the Center for Health and Carol Stream locations.

Aug. 1, 2002 — Elmhurst Clinic celebrates its golden anniversary.

Aug. 4, 2004 — The Wood Dale site relocates to a larger location with enhanced patient convenience at 224-236C East Irving Park Road, Wood Dale.

May 2005 — The fifth location opens in Lombard in the new Elmhurst Memorial Lombard Health Center at 130 S. Main Street. Similar to the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health, the Lombard Health Center offers full-service outpatient care for the community — including an Immediate Care Center.

May 1, 2007 — The sixth Clinic location opens in Oak Park at 6645 W. North Avenue, Oak Park. This location is the office of Dr. Michael Kyle, Dr. Ingrid Liu, and Dr. Mary Hutton who have joined the Clinic's Family Medicine Department.

October 29, 2007 - The Carol Stream office relocated to Bloomingdale offering more contemporary space to better meet the needs of patients at 471 W. Army Trail Road, Suite 102, Bloomingdale, (630) 671-8020.

February 4, 2008 - The seventh Elmhurst Clinic location opens in the Elmhurst Memorial Addison Health Center. Family Medicine is the main specialty seen at this location.
