What is an Audiologist?
An audiologist is a professional who specializes in preventing, identifying and assessing individuals with hearing loss. They have extensive training and skills to evaluate the hearing of adults, infants and children of all ages. The audiologist will use sophisticated equipment to measure hearing ability and identify the presence and severity of any problem.
If the audiologist finds the problem requires a medical consultation, you will be referred to your physician. If it is determined that the hearing problem is non-medical, the audiologist may seek your physician’s medical clearance to provide you with a rehabilitation device. If your hearing impairment is mild, the audiologist may simply make recommendations, which can help to manage communication problems at home, school, work, etc. If the hearing loss is more serious, the audiologist may suggest and fit you with a hearing aid and educate you in its use and care.
