What Does a Pediatric Cardiologist Do?
The Elmhurst Clinic pediatric cardiologists see patients in consultation on a nonemergent basis at the Elmhurst Clinic three days per month. They perform physical assessments and pediatric noninvasive procedures (such as EKG, Holter monitoring and echocardiography) for patients of the pediatricians and family medicine physicians of the Elmhurst Clinic.
The pediatric cardiologists perform post-cardiovascular surgery follow-up, which may go on throughout childhood depending on the severity of the cardiac condition. An occasional patient may be referred to the Mayo Clinic for surgical intervention or diagnostic invasive intervention.
